A new set of photographs has emerged, digitally colorized from the original black-and-white, depicting the storming of Normandy Beach on D-Day, 1944. The color D-Day photos give the subject an immediacy that is sometimes lost in B&W photos
The photos show Allied soldiers advancing on Omaha beach, the bloodiest battle of the invasion of Normandy. The album was released on the 73rd anniversary of D-Day.
It is estimated that as many as 4,400 Allied troops lost their lives during Operation Overlord. Winston Churchill described the Operation as “undoubtedly the most complicated and difficult that has ever taken place.”
