You Won’t Believe This Couple’s Amazing Transformation
In less than two years, Lexi and Danny Reed turned their lives around in a way that’s inspiring everyone who learns about their amazing journey. They not only helped themselves, but in the process they also became powerful role models for people all across the globe who want to make a change. From struggling with dangerous weight issues, Lexi and Danny faced their fears and learned a lot about diet and exercise that they’re now sharing with the world. Get ready to be blown away by their story and these pictures that show the unbelievable transformation…
Lexi always had issues with her weight, but she was a happy and outgoing person who didn’t let her size get to her. While she made multiple attempts to get healthy through different diets and exercise programs, she was never able to find one that really worked to keep the weight off. By the young age of 25, Lexi weighed 392 pounds and this started to seriously impact her quality of life. She continued to try to live her life to the fullest, but this slowly became harder and harder in ways she couldn’t ignore…
The Love Of Her Life
Eventually, Lexi met the love of her life, Danny Reed, who had been her best friend for 10 years. Danny loved Lexi for the person she was, no matter what size or shape. As much as Danny supported Lexi at every turn, he had his own unhealthy eating habits and led a dangerously sedentary lifestyle. While unconditional love and support is a beautiful thing, there are cases, like this one, where it becomes potentially harmful. It’s not easy when two people are struggling with similar issues.
Danny and Lexi were in love, but sadly, they were also overweight. Danny, who was just a couple years older than Lexi, weighed in at around 280 pounds. This, combined with Lexi’s 392 pounds and their inactive, co-dependent lifestyle, put them in real danger. Their self-indulgence was mutual. Together, they ate out at restaurants for all of their meals, even spending hours at all-you-can-eat buffets. When they did eat at home, they ordered in. And this had been a part of her life for as long as she could remember…
From An Early Age
Lexi’s cycle of unhealthy habits started in her childhood. She remembered, “Growing up, we never had a lot of money and my parents never cooked. Processed foods were always easier to purchase than healthy foods.” These dangerous trends continued even after she began dating Danny. Lexi confessed that the two would frequently binge-watch TV while eating, adding, “I was always an emotional eater, also, and no matter what the mood, food was always there for me.” This is common for a lot of people who struggle with poor eating practices, especially when they come together.
As an overweight couple, Lexi and Danny couldn’t do things others totally take for granted. While they were in a very happy relationship, they were missing the ability to enjoy romantic walks and go biking or hiking. Unfortunately, this made staying at home and watching TV an even more normal part of their time together. As comfortable as this was, Lexi knew that she wanted and deserved more from her life. Being such a positive person, she seriously wanted to change, but just didn’t know how. It seemed impossible, until something amazing happened…
Danny proposed and Lexi said yes. “He never saw me as my size, asked me to change, or made me feel as anything other than beautiful.” But finding a wedding dress in her size wasn’t easy. “Nobody knew how to make me feel like a bride, and not my size. Thank god I was strong enough to know my worth, and kept searching for my 34W dress even though I questioned if I would ever find one.”
After a search that was more difficult than most brides-to-be are used to, Lexi eventually found the right dress for her beautiful wedding. They had an amazing day, but sadly, their problems were just beginning. The marriage started bringing up questions of eventually having children, something that could be both dangerous to Lexi and the baby. This was one of the many things the couple wasn’t going to be able to have access to in their current state…
The couple lost a lot because of their weight. Lexi wasn’t able to have children and they couldn’t travel. She had a dream that one day they would be able to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. However, not only was she too big to go on the rides, she was also too big to fit in a plane seat. It was only a matter of time before she decided enough was enough.
After a year of marriage nothing had changed. They continued to spend their free time in front of the TV eating food that was usually unhealthy and heavily processed. It felt like things were spiraling out of control for her and she knew in her gut that something had to change. But she didn’t know where to start. Little did she know that the calling for change would come quite casually and end up changing her life forever.
The New Year’s Resolution
The need to turn her life around became ever present in Lexi’s mind. So on New Year’s Day in 2016, she finally resolved to start making some major changes that would benefit her health. And thankfully, Lexi wasn’t alone, she had Danny at her side to support her along the way. But initially, he wasn’t into the idea at all. It would take some convincing to get him to join his wife’s healthy New Year’s resolution…
Change of Heart
Danny definitely felt the pressure early on. “At first the idea didn’t sound great because it was always good going home, sitting down, eating and not having to worry about anything,” he said. But he wasn’t going to let Lexi take on the resolution alone. “It’s a new year and something to work toward while helping Lexi out as well.” Danny knew deep down that when it came to their health and future, they had to make a change.
A Friendly Wager
When the couple’s friends found out about their New Year’s resolution, they wanted to make a bet. Lexi and Danny agreed to follow these rules, “no eating out, no soda, no alcohol, no cheat meals, and working out for 30 minutes five times a week.” They were up for the challenge and determined to prove to themselves and their friends that they could do it. This was just the beginning of their long journey to a new life.
Enough is Enough
At her breaking point, Lexi said, “We were fed up with the life that we were living and all the things that we weren’t able to do together as a couple.” She was tired of not being able to live life to the fullest. Lexi said of their concerns, “We also feared if we didn’t get our health under control, we would never be able to start a family.” Things were finally heading in the right direction…
Lexi and Danny joined a local gym in their home city of Terre Haute, Indiana. Lexi went for 30 minutes a day, every day, but it was very challenging. It was a different environment and neither of them had a personal trainer, but they were both strong-willed people who wanted to fulfill their promise to their friends. Lexi, however, had issues at first finding the right training regimen as she suffered from severe joint pain due to her weight and…
Lexi was self-conscious about what people at the gym would think of her, so they found one that met their needs. She said, “I started going there when I got a free trial and — since it was never really crowded, my machine faced the wall (so I didn’t feel like everyone was watching me), and I found a machine called the CrossRamp that didn’t hurt my joints at 485 pounds — I fell in love with it.”
Step one was going to the gym once a day, but they also had to stop going out to eat at restaurants, which meant that they would need to prepare meals themselves. This wasn’t easy, but with each other’s support, Lexi and Danny started to cook their own food at home. And this time, instead of frozen pizzas, they opted for healthier foods that would help them in their weight loss goals.
Beyond a Diet
It’s one thing to diet, but Lexi and Danny were doing much more. They used their healthy eating habits as part of the foundation on which to build a new way of life. To Lexi, dieting alone is temporary, but she needed something long term that she could stick to. She said, “I started taking the foods I loved and making healthier versions so I no longer felt like I had to give up something.”
Going to the gym and eating healthy aren’t easy, especially for anyone trying to do it alone. But Lexi and Danny had each other. The best way to make a habit out of going to the gym and eating healthy is to have a support system in place. Danny and Lexi used each other to stay strong and together they stayed motivated and pretty soon a month had passed. But what happened next was amazing…
Feeling a Pulse
Lexi and Danny became regulars at their gym, where Lexi even started taking classes and meeting people. Her new friends would also turn into her support system and hold her accountable. She said, “I love my Pulse class. I love dancing to my favorite music and not feeling like it’s a workout. We can do a song full of squats and even though my legs are burning, it’s so much fun that I don’t even notice.”
Perseverance and Determination
Slowly but surely, Lexi’s hard work started paying off. She quickly got over her fears of going to the gym, declaring that, “If people were going to stare at me because of my weight, I was going to give them a reason to stare by being the hardest worker in the room.” She kept going to the gym and eating healthy, counting her daily calorie intake, and pretty soon, her new habits turned into a lifestyle.
Lexi wasn’t the only one making significant progress in the journey towards being healthy. While Danny was beside Lexi every step of the way, he was eventually able to see a difference in his health, as well. When their journey started, Danny weighed in at 280 pounds, but after just the first year he managed to get down to 190 pounds, which is almost a hundred pounds in just 12 months.
After just a year and a half, Lexi’s entire life looked completely different. By May 2018, she was down an incredible 312 pounds. Lexi says that the first big difference she noticed in her size occurred when she went back to a restaurant that the couple frequented before they started their journey. She remembered that her stomach used to rest on the table, but not anymore, and she says that was a true moment of pride.
Looking for more support and wanting to share her experience, Lexi created an Instagram account in the fall of 2016. The account, called Fat Girl Fed Up features daily pictures of Lexi going to the gym, along with motivational quotes. Today, Lexi’s Instagram account has over 750,000 followers. She also posts stunning before-and-after collages. In just two short years she used hard work and determination to transform herself into a healthier person.
Lexi and Danny’s story spread across the internet like wildfire and started being picked up by news and TV stations nationwide. They were even featured on an episode of Rachael Ray about healthy cooking and eating. But instead of letting their newfound stardom go to their heads, they are more humble now than ever and thank the media attention for helping motivate them further on their journey to living healthier.
A New Lease On Life
Combined, Lexi and Danny have lost over 400 pounds together. When Danny proposed, as seen in an earlier photo, Lexi was almost 500 pounds and even a short walk along the beach would be enough to tire her out and leave her out of breath. Going back to that spot was a huge priority when they got healthy. After their visit, she said, “We returned to that beach and ran down that beach!”
Enjoy The Rides
One of the ways the couple celebrated their transformation was visiting Harry Potter World at Universal Studios. Before, they weren’t able fit on rides at amusement parks, but now they can enjoy everything the experience has to offer. The already-happy couple is now happier. Having gone through their weight loss journey together, Lexi says that she and her husband have never felt closer and that their relationship has never been stronger.
At her heaviest, Lexi wasn’t able to fly on planes, but not anymore. She said, “Every day is a non-scale victory and a reminder of how far I’ve come. Like, I loved myself even at 485 pounds, but just to be able to wake up and do whatever I want to do and go wherever I want to go… I don’t feel like I’m a prisoner in my own body anymore.”
Having undergone such a dramatic and amazing weight loss journey that will be a part of her life forever, Lexi loves to give others advice and inspiration. She has said to, “Start small — small changes add up to big results — and focus on each day, not how far you have to go.” She also advises against believing in any magic pill or surgery to get healthy, advising that it’s better to do it naturally.
Side By Side
Lexi and Danny’s journey has meant so much to so many, and as any side-by-side picture shows, it was incredibly powerful to go through. Lexi said, “I learned how strong and capable I am as a person. I thought it would take me over three years to lose 300-plus pounds, but I was so determined and hardworking that I did it in two.” She hopes that sharing her experience can help others succeed.
Lexi said, “Going into 2018 I have nothing but a newfound happiness for this life I am living. I no longer am a prisoner in my own body and instead of just existing in my own life, I’m finally alive. Every day I wake up is a blessing. I’m so proud of how far I’ve come and this new life that I’m living. I saved my own life, and for that there are no words — only gratitude.”
After going viral and receiving a ton of attention for her transformation, Lexi was chosen by L’Oréal Paris and TNT Drama as one of their inspiring strong women. To celebrate this honor, she was asked to attend the star-studded 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards, and of course she brought Danny along for the trip. They were flown out to Los Angeles and put up in a fancy hotel, all while maintaining their fitness routine.
This kind of transformation can be complicated, so Lexi had to learn a lot about healthy cooking. She loves to share tips on her multiple social media accounts, where she points out that it’s good to prep the ingredients for healthy meals at the beginning of the week. Pictures of her meals show that she tries to avoid processed or packaged foods. She said, “I know Holidays are hard guys but practice portion control, healthier swaps, balance, planning.”
For Lexi and Danny, camping isn’t only a fun vacation but also a great time to exercise outdoors. For some, hot dogs and hamburgers might be the perfect cookout food, but this couple opts for a healthier high-protein meal, like chicken, steak and mashed avocado. Lexi says that, “Holidays, weekends, or even being out of your routine doesn’t mean we cant still reach our goals and eat delicious food!”
It’s not easy to find time to live a relaxing life and exercise consistently all at once, but Lexi and Danny did. This picture was taken before their Friday date night, showing them first hitting the gym for, “30 minutes of lighter cardio.” Lexi said, “Making the time before date night to work on our goals! Somedays we don’t know how we’re gonna do it, but everyday we get it done!”
Lexi’s amazing journey has inspired a strong community of support, both on the internet and in her personal life. One of the most important elements of maintaining a healthy lifestyle is finding people who share similar goals. And due to her online fame, she’s also able to have support and accountability on all of her social media accounts, where she often hosts motivational fitness contests for fans she’s helping inspire.
Now that she’s healthy, Lexi’s best friend is also her gym buddy, and together they stay motivated and inspired. Lexi said, “When I started my journey I normally was more of a loner and lost people I was close to due to my new lifestyle and hobbies. However over time I found others along the way who helped make me who I am today and helped to make my journey more enjoyable.”
Oliver and Olivia
As much time as they spend at the gym, they’ve also been able to have a rich life at home. One, or two, of the main reasons for this are their beautiful golden retrievers, Oliver and Olivia. This just shows that even when they’re relaxing away from the gym, they’re still being active, as owning two labs is a workout of its own. Lexi wrote, “Can’t wait for more walks with them this summer!”
There were a lot of things the couple just couldn’t do when they were overweight, like many outdoor activities that are actually really good for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Despite this challenge, they still accomplished their goals and are now able to do stuff like ride dirt bikes. In a post, Lexi celebrates this with, “From 765lbs to riding dirt bikes. Life with you is an adventure & i’m enjoying the ride.”
While Lexi Reed certainly led the couple into their weight-loss journey, she isn’t the only one who inspires others with useful tips for making a lifestyle change. Danny started his own Instagram account called Discovering Danny where he documents his experience. He also shares the adventures that he and Lexi get to go on now that they’re healthier, as well as his own personal milestones, like getting a new tattoo.
As inspirational as their pictures are, Danny and Lexi Reed also have an amazing series of videos on YouTube. One of the best videos documents when Lexi was honored by L’Oréal Paris and TNT Drama at the SAG Awards. The video shows a lot of what they did in Hollywood, like meeting celebrities and staying in a luxury hotel, and gives fans a glimpse of how they maintained their healthy lifestyle even on vacation.
The Today Show
Once their movement went viral, it was only a matter of time until Television networks noticed, with NBC landing an appearance. After flying to New York, Lexi and Danny appeared on The Today Show to be interviewed by Megyn Kelly and share their story, like how they were able to lose 400 pounds together without the help of gastric bypass surgery.
Starting a Family
Getting in shape was definitely inspired by wanting to have kids. Lexi was warned that it could be dangerous to get pregnant, both for herself and the baby, but not anymore. In an interview with Life & Style magazine, she said that, “In 5 years, I see us starting a family as well as finding ways to help more people change their life the same way that we have with diet and exercise.”
